Hazel O. Worley

Hazel Worley has been a career civil servant for more than 30 years, beginning with the Human Resources Administration/Office of Family Services as an Office Associate.

In 1989, she became a member of Local 1180 as a PAA I and immediately became involved in union activities. In 1992, Hazel was elected Shop Steward. Her active involvement in HRA/Labor Relations/Quality of Work Life Committee facilitated her being selected by the Executive Board to serve as Local 1180’s HRA/QWL Facilitator, mediating between labor, management, security, and custodial staff in an effort to enhance the working environment and prevent formal grievances being filed or disciplinary action taken. She also coordinated HRA’s annual events including employee recognition ceremonies, and education, health and financial wellness fairs.

In 2009, Hazel became the Assistant to the Secretary-Treasurer, and serves as the Local’s Payroll Manager. She chairs the Committee on Civil Rights & Equity and the Community Service Committee. She also facilitates the Local’s annual picnic, prom dress drive, toy drive, and the festival of cultures. Hazel represents the local at the NYC Central Labor Council & Greater New York Labor Religion Coalition meetings and is dedicated to the Political Action Committee, in the union, and in her community.

Hazel was elected in 2005 to serve on the Local 1180 Executive Board. She facilitates the monthly Brooklyn Community Coordinating Committee meetings, and is also a member of the CWA Minority Caucus and a delegate to the CWA National Convention.

Hazel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Studies and a Master’s Degree in Urban Leadership from Queens College/City University of New York. She is a 2017 graduate of the Cornell University Leadership Certificate Program. She is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), and Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU).

Hazel is also a supporter of Black Veterans for Social Justice. In 2016, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams appointed her to Community Board #5/42nd District Council Aging Committee Chair, where she serves as a member of the Public Safety Committee and currently is the Chair of the Aging Committee.
